New culinary offering from Edelweiss
The leading Swiss leisure airline Edelweiss will present a new catering concept with new and innovative tableware on board its aircraft starting December 1, 2019. In addition, the Edelweiss Café will open at Zurich Airport in spring 2020 in collaboration with Autogrill.
Edelweiss flies to 72 holiday destinations in 32 countries worldwide, and its route network is constantly growing. "With each new dream destination, we also transport more international passengers who use our connections. In the future, we want to inspire not only our Swiss guests, but also our international customers, to discover the most beautiful parts of the world with us," says Bernd Bauer, CEO of Edelweiss.
Local cuisine for national and international passengers
"Starting in December, our guests will not only bring their personal memories and experiences on board, but will also enjoy specialties from their departure destinations," says Markus Gander, Chief Product Officer at Edelweiss. The catering companies at Edelweiss holiday destinations will now prepare their own, traditional Swiss dishes, which will be served alongside the existing Swiss dishes. "By introducing traditional Swiss dishes from our destinations, we are extending the holiday experience for returning guests and surprising our international passengers with familiar food from their homeland." Furthermore, thanks to local dishes made with local ingredients, sustainable value creation can be supported at the holiday destinations.
Of course, Swiss classics and Swiss products such as the popular breads from the Bertschi bakery in Kloten and Bircher muesli from Bonatura in Kerzers will continue to be served on board. Edelweiss is now also serving "Alpine Ice Tea," a beverage made exclusively for Edelweiss using organic alpine herbs and fresh mountain spring water from Swiss Alpine Herbs in the Simmental region.
Less single-use plastic thanks to the new Edelweiss Box
Starting in December, Edelweiss will be introducing, among other things, the practical and innovative Edelweiss Box in Economy Class. The box is reusable and offers even more benefits: One of these is the generous lid, which guests can use not only as a plate but also to cover their meals without the need for additional disposable plastic closures.
In Business Class, meals will be served on completely newly designed tableware starting February 1, 2020. This offers several advantages, says Markus Gander: "It's lighter, allowing us to reduce weight, and it gives our Business Class a completely new and modern aesthetic."
Edelweiss Café at Zurich Airport
In the new year, Edelweiss is breaking new ground and opening the Edelweiss Café at Zurich Airport, becoming a host not only above the clouds, but also on home soil. "Whether you want to say goodbye to your loved ones before departure or simply escape the stresses of everyday life into an inspiring holiday world – the Edelweiss Café is intended to be a place of emotions and encounters," says Bernd Bauer. The Edelweiss Café is being built in collaboration with Autogrill at the current location of Coffee & Friends, directly in front of the boarding pass check at Check-in 1, and will open in spring 2020.
