Edelweiss, together with the Lufthansa Group, will introduce new rules for carrying and using power banks on board on January 15, 2026, thereby increasing the safety of passengers and crew. Due to the lithium batteries used in power banks, there is a potential fire risk in the event of a malfunction.
In the future, charging electronic devices such as mobile phones or tablets using power banks during flights will not be permitted. A maximum of two power banks may be carried per passenger. Storage in the overhead compartment is not allowed. Power banks must either be carried on the person or stored in the seat pocket or as hand luggage under the seat in front. Transport in checked baggage remains prohibited. This regulation is based on the current recommendations of the international aviation organizations EASA, FAA, IATA, and ICAO.
