Edelweiss presents the travel trends

From Thursday, January 30, to Sunday, February 2, 2025, Edelweiss invites you to discover its current 97 holiday destinations in 37 countries at the FESPO & Golf Fair at the Zurich Exhibition Center. To kick off the holiday fair, Edelweiss offered exciting insights into the most popular holiday destinations for 2024 and revealed which trips will be popular in 2025.

In 2024, Swiss people were mainly drawn to islands
In 2024, the Canary Islands, Greece, and the Balearic Islands were the hottest short- and medium-haul destinations. On long-haul routes, the USA, Canada, and Tanzania enjoyed particular popularity. Newcomers such as Iceland, the Azores, and Cape Verde also provided surprises, proving that Swiss travelers enjoy discovering destinations with unique natural experiences. Patrick Heymann, Chief Commercial Officer of Edelweiss, emphasized: "The Azores were a particular surprise in 2024. Due to the high demand, we have expanded our offerings for 2025 and will be adding Terceira, another Azores island, to our route network in June."

Swiss people will enjoy traveling north in 2025
Two major trends are emerging in holidaymakers' booking behavior for 2025: the growing popularity of Northern Europe and interest in combination holidays in warmer climates. "We're observing that cities like Bergen, Cork, and Edinburgh, and regions like Northern Norway, Lapland, and Cornwall are attracting more and more travelers," says Patrick Heymann. At the same time, there's demand for holiday destinations that allow visitors to combine beach relaxation with cultural discoveries or spectacular natural experiences, for example, with tours within a single country. "Examples of popular combination holiday destinations include Egypt with Luxor and our new destination Giza/Cairo Sphinx, Tanzania with Zanzibar, and Oman, which we'll also be serving with two destinations, Muscat and Salalah, starting this month," says Patrick Heymann.

Holiday variety at the highest level
In 2025, Edelweiss will celebrate its 30th anniversary. In addition to Terceira in the Azores and Salalah in Oman, the Edelweiss portfolio will be expanded to include more holiday destinations: Halifax (Canada), Seattle (USA), Bristol (UK), Zadar (Croatia), Calvi (Corsica), and Tbilisi (Georgia). "Our guests are looking for adventures in nature, cultural discoveries, and relaxation on the beach – we are constantly expanding our flight offerings to continue offering our guests these unforgettable holiday experiences," says Patrick Heymann. To further improve travel options for Edelweiss guests, six state-of-the-art Airbus A350s will be added to the long-haul fleet by mid-2027.
