Edelweiss paves the way into the cockpit – without financial hurdles
- From June 2025, Edelweiss will cover the financial contribution of pilot training as a loan for Swiss nationals
- Co-payment for EU/EFTA citizens will be significantly reduced
- Repayment of the loan is made in installments after employment through salary deduction
For many young people, becoming a pilot is a lifelong dream. However, until now, the realization of this dream has often been thwarted by the high initial training costs. This financial burden represents a major hurdle for many potential applicants and their families.
Starting in June 2025, Edelweiss will support all aspiring pilots with the same loan amount of CHF 80,000. Swiss nationals will thus begin their pilot training without any personal contribution. The entire training costs are covered by the Edelweiss loan amount and federal subsidies. EU/EFTA citizens will be required to make a personal contribution of CHF 24,000 at the start of their training, as they receive lower government subsidies than Swiss citizens.
After completing their training and being employed at the Edelweiss Cockpit, the loan is repaid gradually by the graduates to Edelweiss, with a minimal interest rate. Faster repayment is possible at any time.
This measure sends a strong signal for the promotion of young talent in the cockpit and will meet Edelweiss' increased demand for pilots in the coming years.
