CEO of Edelweiss also becomes CEO of Eurowings Discover

Edelweiss and Eurowings Discover, the two leisure airlines of the Lufthansa Group, will further expand their tourism expertise. To this end, both airlines will have a joint CEO: Bernd Bauer, CEO of Edelweiss since 2014, will assume the position of CEO of Eurowings Discover in Germany on October 1, 2022, in addition to his current duties. This will strengthen and expand Eurowings Discover's management team. Both companies will remain independent going forward.

Edelweiss has decades of extensive experience in the tourism sector. It is the leading Swiss leisure airline. Eurowings Discover was modeled on its German model. Eurowings Discover, founded during the coronavirus pandemic, has experienced rapid growth and successfully positioned itself in the market.

Together with the management teams in Zurich at Edelweiss and in Frankfurt at Eurowings Discover, Bernd Bauer will further accelerate the expansion of the Lufthansa Group's offerings in the tourism segment. At Edelweiss, David Birrer will remain Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Accountable Manager, and Patrick Heymann will remain Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). At Eurowings Discover, Wolfgang Raebiger will focus on the role of COO and Accountable Manager, while Helmut Wölfel will remain CCO.

Edelweiss and Eurowings Discover focus on short-, medium-, and long-haul tourist destinations. They thus complement the network airlines' offerings. Edelweiss flies from Zurich, while Eurowings Discover operates from Frankfurt and Munich. Both companies will retain their independence and continue to operate under their well-known names in their respective markets.
