After the leisure airline announced additional flights, longer seasons, and increased capacity for the 2026/27 winter schedule in July, further expansions are now being announced. This will benefit sun-seekers as well as guests traveling abroad for Christmas or those wishing to experience the winter magic of Finnish Lapland during the school holidays.

More capacity for autumn holidays by the sea

In October, Edelweiss is increasing capacity on several popular holiday routes. On Fridays and Sundays from October to mid-November, Edelweiss will deploy the significantly larger Airbus A340 to Gran Canaria. This will provide considerably more seats on these flights. An Airbus A340 will also be used on Monday flights to Tenerife and Saturday flights to Rhodes in October. Rhodes will also have an additional flight on October 30th.

Significantly more capacity is also available for travel to Crete: Saturday flights to Heraklion will be operated with the larger Airbus A350 instead of an Airbus A320. Furthermore, the destination will be served until the beginning of December.

Edelweiss will expand its service to Mallorca in October with several additional flights and larger aircraft. This creates extra travel options for those who want to extend their summer under the southern sun.

Additional flights over Christmas and New Year

Edelweiss is further expanding its long-haul flight offerings for the particularly popular travel period around Christmas and New Year's. From December 14, 2026, to January 11, 2027, Cape Town will have an additional flight every Monday. This provides guests with more travel options to South Africa over the holiday season.

There are also additional travel options to popular island destinations in the Indian Ocean. Malé in the Maldives will be served every Sunday from December 20, 2026, to January 10, 2027. Edelweiss will offer additional flights to the Seychelles and Mauritius every Friday from December 18, 2026, to January 8, 2027. This creates more opportunities to spend the holidays on white sandy beaches under the tropical sun.

Even more winter magic in Finnish Lapland

During the winter school holidays, Edelweiss is further expanding its already significantly enhanced service to Finnish Lapland. From February 5th to March 5th, 2027, Kittilä will have an additional flight every Friday. From February 2nd to March 2nd, 2027, a new connection to Rovaniemi will also be offered on Tuesdays.

Whether it's the Northern Lights, snow-covered forests, reindeer safaris or winter sports: with the additional flights, guests have even more opportunities to discover the Nordic winter during the sports holidays.

These additions complement the expansion of the winter flight schedule 2026/27, which was already announced in July. Flights can now be booked on flyedelweiss.com and via the usual booking channels.

holiday destinations

Connections to Finnish Lapland, Northern Norway, and Northern Sweden, as well as selected long-haul routes, will be particularly enhanced. This is Edelweiss's response to the continued high demand for winter holidays in Northern Europe and beach holidays, especially in the Indian Ocean.

Finnish destinations with more flights and longer seasons

The service to Finnish Lapland is expanding particularly significantly. Kittilä will now be served starting at the end of November instead of mid-December. An additional Saturday flight complements the existing schedule. During the winter school holidays, Edelweiss will also offer flights to Kittilä on Tuesdays and Thursdays, bringing the total number of connections to five per week.

Rovaniemi is also starting its season earlier: The capital of Finnish Lapland will be served from the end of November and will now also be served on Fridays. During the peak season, Ivalo will be served three times a week instead of two. Due to strong demand, Kuusamo will receive more nonstop flights.

More offers to Norway and Sweden

The service to Norway and Sweden is also being expanded. Following a successful first season, Luleå in Swedish Lapland will receive a second weekly connection during the peak demand months. Bergen will now also be served in February and March, complementing the existing summer schedule. Due to high demand, Tromsø, one of the most popular starting points for Northern Lights and winter experiences in Northern Norway, will now be served daily.

More frequencies on long-distance routes

On long-haul routes, Edelweiss is deploying additional capacity on particularly high-demand routes during the peak season. Malé in the Maldives will be served with an additional weekly flight from the end of October to mid-January, bringing the total to up to four flights per week. Colombo in Sri Lanka will also receive an additional weekly flight during the same period, with up to three flights per week now offered.

Furthermore, the season to Windhoek in Namibia will now start in mid-March instead of early June as before. This means the destination will be offered for a significantly longer period.

More capacity on popular holiday routes

The service is also being expanded in certain areas of the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands, and North Africa. Corfu will now be served until mid-November. Faro will receive an additional frequency throughout the season, with up to five flights per week. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will see increased capacity in the autumn. Most flights to La Palma will now be nonstop instead of via Tenerife, simultaneously freeing up capacity to Tenerife.

The season is also being extended to Crete: Chania will be served until the end of October and Heraklion even until the beginning of December. Marrakech will receive additional flights in February and March. Bari, which was previously only offered during the summer flight schedule, will now also be served over Christmas and New Year's.

With these adjustments to its flight schedule, Edelweiss is responding to the high demand for winter holidays in Northern Europe as well as for sunny and long-haul destinations. The 2026/27 winter flight schedule will include a total of 69 destinations from Zurich in 33 countries, comprising 51 short- and medium-haul destinations and 18 long-haul destinations.

The winter flight schedule is valid from October 25, 2026 to March 27, 2027. All flights are now bookable on flyedelweiss.com and via the usual booking channels.

holiday destinations

However, a unique feature is its location by the frozen sea, allowing for unique winter activities such as driving on ice or tours with an icebreaker. With its Gammelstad, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and a well-developed infrastructure, Luleå is also an ideal starting point for winter tours through Swedish Lapland – whether towards the Finnish border or to Kiruna and Abisko, perhaps the best place to observe the Northern Lights.

São Vicente and Praia in Cape Verde
For several years, Edelweiss has served the Cape Verdean islands of Sal and Boa Vista, known for beach holidays and water sports. Now, São Vicente and Praia are added as two destinations that serve as perfect starting points for island hopping. São Vicente and its neighboring island Santo Antão, which are well connected by ferry, are considered nature and hiking paradises. Many tours in Cape Verde start here and continue across several islands to Sal or Boa Vista. The capital Praia on the island of Santiago is the political and economic center of Cape Verde. Santiago is considered the most culturally interesting island of the archipelago and offers diverse insights into history and daily life. From here, the neighboring island of Fogo with its impressive volcano can also be reached.

Additional capacities and more nonstop flights on long-haul routes
On long-haul routes, there are numerous innovations and expansions thanks to the third and fourth Airbus A350: Muscat and Salalah in Oman will be offered continuously from September to May. The trendy destination Colombo in Sri Lanka will be served nonstop again after a three-year break and will receive a second weekly flight. Frequencies and capacities are also increased for Punta Cana (now three weekly flights), Puerto Plata, Montego Bay (both from mid-December two), Cape Town (new five), and Phuket (four from January). All Maldives flights will now be operated nonstop.

On short-haul routes, the main focus is on Southern Europe and North Africa: All Canary Islands will receive additional frequencies during the high-demand months: Gran Canaria and Tenerife will now be served up to eleven times, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura up to four times, and La Palma up to two times per week. Bilbao will be available throughout the winter, and Palma de Mallorca will be expanded to up to six frequencies. To the east, popular destinations such as Pristina (now up to 14 weekly flights), Skopje (up to four), Split (up to three), and Larnaca (up to eight) will receive additional capacities. Tbilisi in Georgia was newly added in April and is now extended into winter. Catania (Sicily) and Lamezia (Calabria) will be continuously served with several weekly flights.

In Morocco, Marrakech will have up to six and Agadir two weekly connections in the flight schedule. In Egypt, Hurghada will be increased to up to 13 weekly connections, Marsa Alam to four. Sharm El Sheikh is scheduled twice, Luxor once, and Giza/Cairo Sphinx will also be served twice a week with a flight schedule optimized for cultural trips.

The destinations in the far north will experience another expansion: Evenes/Lofoten will receive a second weekly connection in the second half of winter, and the season start for the Finnish destinations Rovaniemi and Ivalo will be moved forward to early December. Kittilä, Kuusamo, Tromsø, and Iceland's Reykjavik will continue to be served. Bristol will receive two weekly connections in February in addition to summer flights, and the number of flights to Edinburgh will be further increased.

On seasonal routes such as Heraklion, Kalamata, Antalya, Cagliari, or Ponta Delgada, the popular autumn season will be extended into November with additional flights.

holiday destinations

To kick off the holiday fair, Edelweiss offered exciting insights into the most popular holiday destinations for 2024 and revealed which trips will be popular in 2025.

In 2024, Swiss people were mainly drawn to islands
In 2024, the Canary Islands, Greece, and the Balearic Islands were the hottest short- and medium-haul destinations. On long-haul routes, the USA, Canada, and Tanzania enjoyed particular popularity. Newcomers such as Iceland, the Azores, and Cape Verde also provided surprises, proving that Swiss travelers enjoy discovering destinations with unique natural experiences. Patrick Heymann, Chief Commercial Officer of Edelweiss, emphasized: "The Azores were a particular surprise in 2024. Due to the high demand, we have expanded our offerings for 2025 and will be adding Terceira, another Azores island, to our route network in June."

Swiss people will enjoy traveling north in 2025
Two major trends are emerging in holidaymakers' booking behavior for 2025: the growing popularity of Northern Europe and interest in combination holidays in warmer climates. "We're observing that cities like Bergen, Cork, and Edinburgh, and regions like Northern Norway, Lapland, and Cornwall are attracting more and more travelers," says Patrick Heymann. At the same time, there's demand for holiday destinations that allow visitors to combine beach relaxation with cultural discoveries or spectacular natural experiences, for example, with tours within a single country. "Examples of popular combination holiday destinations include Egypt with Luxor and our new destination Giza/Cairo Sphinx, Tanzania with Zanzibar, and Oman, which we'll also be serving with two destinations, Muscat and Salalah, starting this month," says Patrick Heymann.

Holiday variety at the highest level
In 2025, Edelweiss will celebrate its 30th anniversary. In addition to Terceira in the Azores and Salalah in Oman, the Edelweiss portfolio will be expanded to include more holiday destinations: Halifax (Canada), Seattle (USA), Bristol (UK), Zadar (Croatia), Calvi (Corsica), and Tbilisi (Georgia). "Our guests are looking for adventures in nature, cultural discoveries, and relaxation on the beach – we are constantly expanding our flight offerings to continue offering our guests these unforgettable holiday experiences," says Patrick Heymann. To further improve travel options for Edelweiss guests, six state-of-the-art Airbus A350s will be added to the long-haul fleet by mid-2027.

holiday destinations

New destinations include Bristol in England, Calvi in Corsica, Tbilisi in Georgia, Terceira in the Azores, and Zadar in Croatia. Edelweiss will also add summer service to Kittilä in Finland, following its launch in winter 2024/2025.

Bristol: Street art meets maritime heritage
The vibrant metropolis of Bristol is located in the southwest of England. The home of street artist Banksy, it fascinates with its art and culture. Bristol is also the perfect starting point for adventures in Cornwall or a trip to Bath, where the Regency splendor of the Netflix series "Bridgerton" comes to life. From June to September, Edelweiss will take over this destination from its sister airline SWISS and will fly from Zurich to Bristol every Monday and Friday.

Calvi: Where sea and mountains meet
In addition to its existing destination of Figari, Edelweiss is now serving Calvi, a second destination in Corsica. The port town of Calvi in northwest Corsica captivates with a unique blend of French savoir-vivre and Corsican authenticity, making it an ideal destination for a stay in Figari. In the old town, winding alleys tell the story of bygone times, while the sophisticated marina exudes a touch of glamour. Outdoor enthusiasts will also find hiking in Calvi. From July to September, flights to Calvi from Zurich operate every Sunday.

Terceira: Outdoor adventures in a natural paradise
With Terceira, Edelweiss is adding another destination in the Azores, alongside Ponta Delgada. The "third island" of the Azores is an absolute paradise for outdoor and nature lovers. Ocean blue and grassy green are the dominant colors, which, together with a thriving landscape and rich fauna, provide pure relaxation. The north is also known as a good wine-growing region. From June to September, Edelweiss flies from Zurich to Terceira every Wednesday.

Tbilisi: A feast for the senses
The Georgian capital, Tbilisi, is a melting pot of cultures: Soviet, European, and Oriental influences shape the cityscape, creating a unique flair. The shimmering blue-green Jumah Mosque, the gigantic Sameba Cathedral, and the Bridge of Peace draw everyone's attention. From Tbilisi, visitors can explore traditional wine regions, the impressive mountain panorama of Stepantsminda, and the salty sea air of Batumi. Flights to Tbilisi from Zurich are available on Tuesdays and Saturdays from April to October.

Zadar: Dalmatia's coastal pearl
Zadar, located on the northern coast of Dalmatia, enchants with unique experiences. On the waterfront promenade, you can listen to the melodious sound of the Sea Organ while the evening sun bathes the sea in golden light. Zadar is also an excellent base for Croatia tours or island hopping. The beautiful islands of the Kvarner Bay, such as Lošinj, Rab, and Cres, are easily accessible by ferry or bus. From June to August, Edelweiss flies from Zurich to Zadar on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Kittilä also in summer
Kittilä, Finland, is now also being served during the summer. From June to September, Edelweiss flies from Zurich every Saturday to the far north, where guests can experience the unique landscape of Lapland—including the famous midnight sun.

The flights are now bookable at flyedelweiss.com and through all usual sales channels. From the end of February 2025, Edelweiss will fly twice a week from Zurich via Muscat to Salalah and return non-stop.

Edelweiss now flies to Sphinx International Airport in Egypt. Located west of Cairo and Giza, this airport is the gateway to the world-famous Pyramids of Giza. Sphinx Airport is also the ideal starting point for Nile cruises (in combination with the Edelweiss destination Luxor), and the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is scheduled to open later this year, is in the immediate vicinity. Starting November 6, 2024, Edelweiss will fly twice a week from Zurich to Sphinx International Airport.

The Tunisian capital, Tunis, fascinates with its rich history and culture. One highlight is the old Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-see for every visitor. Here, you can stroll through the narrow streets and explore the traditional souk. Furthermore, you can embark on wonderful tours through Tunisia from Tunis. Starting December 19, 2024, Edelweiss will fly twice a week from Zurich to Tunis.

Major expansion to northern destinations with tripling of services to Lapland and doubling of services to Norway
To meet the growing popularity of winter destinations in Norway and Finland, Edelweiss is significantly increasing its flight frequencies for the coming winter. Here, travelers can experience the spectacular Northern Lights and Arctic adventure in one of the northernmost cities in the world. Evenes Airport near Narvik will also be served during winter for the first time. Narvik offers fantastic winter activities and will host the Alpine Ski World Championships in 2029. Kuusamo will be served every Friday, and Ivalo will now be served twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays.

For the first time, Edelweiss is also offering scheduled flights to Kittilä and Rovaniemi, serving both destinations twice a week from mid-December to the end of March. Flights to Kittilä are available on Mondays and Wednesdays, and to Rovaniemi on Mondays and Thursdays. In addition, Edelweiss will continue to operate charter flights to Kittilä and Rovaniemi every Saturday on behalf of Kontiki Reisen.

Norway fans can also rejoice: New flights to Evenes are also available in the winter schedule. Flights operate every Saturday from mid-December to the end of March. Evenes is the ideal starting point for exploring the breathtaking island paradise of Lofoten – an archipelago with more than 80 islands. In addition to the Lofoten Islands, the Evenes region has much more to offer: The city of Narvik is an ideal starting point for unforgettable experiences in the north, and the Vesterålen Islands – although somewhat less well-known than the Lofoten Islands – are just as impressive.

With the six destinations Evenes/Lofoten, Tromsø, Kittilä, Rovaniemi, Ivalo, and Kuusamo, Edelweiss offers a comprehensive and attractive portfolio in northern Scandinavia in the 2024/25 winter flight schedule. Those planning to visit the Basque Country can ideally combine Biarritz with the existing destination of Bilbao. Flights to Biarritz start in June and operate every Tuesday and Friday. Bari is the capital of Apulia and is considered a perfect starting point for exploring and enjoying this exciting region. A round trip offers additional highlights such as the Amalfi Coast. Bari will be served every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday starting in April.

More destinations during summer flight schedule
For the first time in the summer schedule, Boa Vista and Sal in Cape Verde will be served; the season will be extended beyond the winter until the end of June. Amman and Aqaba in Jordan, which will be added to the schedule in February 2023, will also be served in the summer schedule. Larnaca in Cyprus will now be served up to 13 times a week.

Expansion of services to Scotland and North Africa
Edinburgh, Scotland, will be served up to eight times a week next summer: an ideal destination for a weekend city break or a tour of the magnificent Highlands. Services to North Africa will also be expanded: Marrakech will be served with six weekly flights next spring, and Agadir with two. Morocco is ideal for cultural tours followed by beach holidays or golf vacations. Services to Djerba, Tunisia, will be expanded by one weekly frequency to three.

Expansion of services in summer also on long-haul routes
In its 2023 long-haul summer flight schedule, Edelweiss offers 21 diverse holiday destinations in 15 countries. It is adding three new destinations in Tanzania to its route network for the fall break: Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar, and Dar es Salaam. These holiday destinations can be perfectly combined to experience the country's full diversity.

Holidays in Tanzania are a paradise. The country fascinates with its natural wealth and diverse wildlife. Experience the "Big 5" (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and rhino) up close in the Serengeti National Park, hike Mount Kilimanjaro, or relax on the beach of a tropical island like the Arabic-influenced Zanzibar: Those seeking variety are guaranteed to find it in Tanzania.

Kilimanjaro: The hiking paradise
Kilimanjaro, the "Roof of Africa," attracts nature lovers from all over the world with its imposing snow-capped peak. A hike up Africa's highest mountain is rightfully on the bucket list of many nature and trekking enthusiasts. The area around Kilimanjaro is the ideal starting point for exploring Tanzania's vast steppe landscapes and incredible wildlife.

Starting October 8, 2021, Edelweiss will fly twice a week directly from Zurich to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Zanzibar: The tropical beauty
The gleaming white beaches on the spice island of Zanzibar promise all-round pampering and relaxation. Beach holidays scented with pepper, cloves, and vanilla, where the azure sea gently laps at your feet and your senses soar. The year-round warm, crystal-clear waters and the powder-white sand beaches make Zanzibar the African dream destination for unwinding.

Starting October 8, 2021, Edelweiss will fly once a week from Zurich to Zanzibar with a stopover in Kilimanjaro.

Dar es Salaam: The gateway to southern Tanzania
The bustling metropolis of Dar es Salaam lies on the largely undeveloped mainland coast of Tanzania. Not far from the city, you'll find secluded beaches with an oriental flair. The dream island of Zanzibar is just a stone's throw away, and the national parks in southern Tanzania can be easily explored from here.

Starting October 12, 2021, Edelweiss will fly once a week from Zurich to Dar es Salaam with a stopover in Kilimanjaro.

Flights to the three new holiday destinations can now be booked at flyedelweiss.com and through all usual sales channels.

Should renewed entry restrictions require an adjustment to the flight schedule, this will be communicated promptly.
